  • Microsporum canis is primary fungi that cause dermatophytosis in dogs. This fungus infected damage an the surface of the skin, hair and nails. This study aims to describe the clinical overview of skin and hair and microscopic damage of dog hair caused by M. canis. Six local dogs that had been infected with M. canis used in this study. Nine days post infection the clinical symptoms was observed physically and using ultraviolet light. Samples of hair from the infected dog was taken and examined microscopically. Clinically results showed that dogs were infected by M.canis shown erythema and crusting lesions, lesion looked dull and hair loss occurs. Microscopic imaging of hair infected with M. canis showed uneven cuticle, thin cortex and loose medulla. Based on these results it can be concluded that the clinical and microscopic examination of the hair can be used to diagnose dermatophytosis caused by M. canis.
