  • Background : High consumption of fat can lead to hyperlipidemia that causes atherosclerosis and heart disease. Hyperlipidemic conditions cause lipid peroxidation in the body that produce toxic such as malondialdehyde (MDA). Consumption antioxidants can prevent the lipid peroxidation process. Purple sweet potato has bioactive compounds that can be used as antioxidants such as vitamins, anthocyanins, and phenolic compounds. Objective : To determine the effect of Purple Sweet Potato Yoghurt (PSP-Y) on levels of serum MDA Sprague Dawley rats fed a high-fat diet Method : This research is a quasi experimental study with pre and post test control group design. 28 Sprague Dawley rats were divided into 4 groups. The standard group (ST) as a control group fed a high-fat for 2 weeks and then fed a standard without PSP-Y for 4 weeks. High-fat group (TL) were given a high-fat diet for 6 weeks without PSP-Y. Two treatment groups were given a high-fat diet for 2 weeks and then fed a standard diet and PSP-Y with dose of 2 ml (Y2) and 4 ml (Y4) for 4 weeks. Blood sampling was performed to analyze the levels of MDA after administration of a high-fat diet, day 14 and day 28 of treatment. MDA was analyzed using the TBARS method. Result : The MDA serum levels were significantly different between groups during the second week (p = 0.017) but no decreased levels of serum MDA on Y2 group and Y4 group. Conclusion : Oral administration of PSP-Y couldnô��¶t decrease serum MDA levels.
