  • One important step in root canal treatment is cleaning and filling the root canal. Cleanup the root canal aims to dissolve necrotic tissue, debris and smear layer. Sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) can dissolve organic tissue of smear layer to facilitate the adaptation between the filler with root canal dentin. One of siler materials that can adapt well to the dentine is calcium hydroxide (Ca(OH)2). Good adaptation between the filler material with dentin affect apical leakage in teeth. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of NaOCl concentration on apical leakage of teeth after root canal treatment with Ca(OH)2 as material based siler. This research subjects used 15 teeth were divided into 3 treatment groups. Group I were irrigated with 0.5% NaOCl, II 2.5% NaOCl, and III NaOCl 5%. Tooth lenght of 15 mm from the apical to coronal by cutting a portion of the crown. Preparation using k-file with step back technique. Each turn of the tool, irrigated with 2 mL NaOCl irrigation using a special needle with size 30G. Then obturated with sealer Ca(OH)2 and gutaperca using lateral condensation technique. Furthermore given methylene blue and centrifuged. Subjects split symmetrically into the buccal and lingual and observed under an optical microscope. Data analysis using Kruskal-Wallis and Mann-Whitney test statistic. The results showed there is a effect of NaOCl concentration on apical leakage. The highest apical leakage is group I and the smalest is group III.
