- During winter in Japan there is a variety of winter festivals. Among these winter festivals, there is Sapporo Yuki Matsuri. This festival attracts many visitors both from Japan and outside Japan every year. One of the famous events of Sapporo Yuki Matsuri is an international snow sculpture contest that is followed by few teams from several countries. This final assignment aims to knowing the kind of winter festival in Japan and determine the factors that influence the development of Sapporo Yuki Matsuri and the impact of development Sapporo Yuki Matsuri on Japanese society. Datas are achieved through book sources and internet. Results show that the most important factors that influence the development Sapporo Yuki Matsuri is winter tourist areas, facilities, transportation, accommodation, other winter festivals in Hokkaido and image factors. Generally, Japanese society, especially Sapporo�s citizens, has positive impact on the development of Sapporo Yuki Matsuri. Sometimes the presence of tourist annoy some citizens, such as noise, traffic jam, and also restaurants and bars full of travelers.
