  • This research paper investigates cultural terms found in the novel Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secret and their Indonesian translations. The data were obtained from Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secret and the Indonesian version Harry Potter dan Kamar Rahasia. The data were in the form of sentences containing cultural terms and their Indonesian translations. The results show that 134 cultural terms were found in the novel. Out of these 134 terms, 59 (44.1%) were classified as belonging to the techno-economic system category, 40 (28.9%) to the social system category, 25 (18.6 %) to the ideational system category and 10 (7.5%) to the linguistic system. This shows the use of the terms in the novel is dominated by the techno-economic system category. Interestingly, it was also found that 68 (50.7%) terms were translated using the borrowing strategy, 55 (41.1%) using literal translation, 9 (6.7%) using adaptation and only 2 (1.5%) using transposition. This shows that borrowing is the most commonly used strategy in translating cultural terms in the novel.
