- Background: Patients ICU has a very critical condition that can be life threaten, so that the patients need of palliative care in the ICU. Patients and their families in the ICU are usually experience many various feelings of fear, anxiety, panic and stress. Patients and their families will use the spiritual aspects as coping to deal with this various conditions that arise in the patient and the family. Objective: To determine the spiritual support provided by nurses for patients and families in palliative care in the ICU Hospital Dr. Sardjito Yogyakarta Methods: A descriptive study with a qualitative approach. Data collection was conducted from December 2012 to February 2013 through in-depth interviews and observation with 5 nurses participants and in-depth interviews with 5 families of palliative patients in the ICU participants. Purposive sampling technique for sampling. Data analysis using multi triangulation techniques. The first Triangulation performed between nurse interview data with observational data. Furthermore, from the results of the first triangulation, the researcher did the triangulation again with interview data from participants' families. Results: The results were translated into 7 themes, namely 1) the understanding of spiritual support is an effort given by others to be able to promote the spirit of life to those who receive it
