  • Background: Public health center is a form of a society-based health preserving efforts of the Indonesian society that has belonged to themselves and been unified in their life and cultures. To achieve success in all its activities cadres needs medical forces that are able to work well and excelling at their expertise. Statistic shows that only 50% of all public health center are still in active service with each having only 40-50% participation. This indicates that public health center service and its quality has been declining overtime. Objective: To discover the relationship of knowledge and motivation with the skills of public health center cadres in conducting early detection towards the basic development of preschool children. Method of Research: This research was a correlational research with quantitative approach and cross-sectional design. There were 41 respondents who work as cadre in the Puskesmas Sewon 2, Bantul. The data were collected through questionnaires and observation sheets. Those data were then analyzed using Spearman Product Moment. Result of Research: The knowledge of the cadres was mostly rated as high category, while motivation and skills were rated as moderate category. The calculation of the relationship between knowledge and skills produced result was p: 0.116, so it can be concluded that there was no correlation between knowledge and skills. For the relationship between motivation and skills the produced result was p: 0.514, so it can be concluded that there was no correlation between motivation and skills of the health cadres. Conclusion: The knowledge of the cadres is categorized as high, while their motivation and skills are moderate. There is no correlation between knowledge and skills of the health cadres nor between motivation and skills of the health cadres.
