- Sumbanese horse (Equus caballus) is one of Indonesian local horses whose morphological characteristics between head, neck, chest, hip, fore and hind feet are well suited, ability to survive in poor soil area and tropical climate, resistance towards disease, quick running type, and ability to drag small carriage with two or more passengers. The objective of this research is to study the morphological, physiological and haematological characteristics of local Sumbanese horse, so it can be used to help horse conservation in Indonesia. The research uses 3 mares and 2 stallions which is conducted on Lewa and Kambera, East Sumba. The five samples are examined to find out their health through morphological and physiological measurement, and also the taking of the blood. Five ml blood is taken from jugular vein that located in sulcus jugularis lateral part of the horse�s neck and accommodated in a tube that has been added with Ethylene Diamine Tetra Acetid acid (EDTA). Blood sample is kept in ice thermos before it sent to The Laboratory of Departement Internal Medicine, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Universitas Gadjah Mada, Yogyakarta for farther examination. Result of the research shows that Sumbanese horse have morphological data: length of the body 122-125 cm
