- Background: Osteoarthritis (OA) is the most common form of arthritis, affecting millions of people around the world. Studies showed that the prevalence of OA increases with age. OA is characterised with joint pain, stiffness, loss of joint mobility, disability, reduced social interaction, deformity, decline in well-being, and to a limited extent, mortality. Pain related to OA has also been linked to psychosocial factors, including anxiety, depression and helplessness. Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS) is a non-invasive method of pain management. A study showed that high-frequency TENS (100 Hz) produced a 49% increase in immunoreactive dynorphin A (ir-Dyn A). Dynorphin is natural painkillers that may block the pain perception in brain and there was role of Corticotrophin Releasing Factor Receptor 1 (CRF1) in the Central Nucleus of the Amygdale (CeA) in pain related anxiety. Therefore, it is necessary to study the effectiveness of TENS to decrease anxiety in patients with OA. Objective: To identify the effect of TENS therapy in reducing anxiety in osteoarthritis patients. Method: The study present was an experiment with pre test post test of control design involving 16 subjects based on medical record of geriatric clinic RSUP DR. Sardjto, the subjects were divided into 8 subjects as intervention (high-frequency TENS: 100 Hz) and 8 subjects as control group (TENS: 0 Hz). Hamilton anxiety rating scale (HARS) was used to assess anxiety in pretest, intervention and posttest of the subjects. Result: In intervention group
