  • Background: Majority of stroke survivors have risk factors which persist when stroke occurs. Risk factor management is absolutely needed to prevent stroke recurrence. In order to have accurate management, strong perception is needed. Considering the importance of risk factor management, it is necessary to study correlation between perception on risk factor management and capacity of risk factor management in stroke survivors at Panembahan Senopati Hospital, Bantul, Yogyakarta. Method: The study was an analytic correlation with cross sectional design implemented to 20 stroke patients at Panembahan Senopati Hospital. Samples were purposively selected. Data were obtained through questionnaire of perception on risk factor management and self care to assess capacity in managing risk factors. Data analysis used Spearman test. Result: The result Spearman test showed there was no significant correlation (p>0,05) between perception on risk factor management and capacity in managing risk factors with score of r=0,398 (p=0,082). The majority of respondents had good perception on risk factor management (55%). Percentage of respondents was balanced between those with good risk factor management and those with poor risk factor management (50%). Conclusion: There is no correlation between perception on risk factor management and capacity in managing risk factors in stroke survivors.
