- A city will always grow up, physically or non-physically. One of the causes of these changes is increasing number of the citizens. The impacts of it are an inappropriate use of a space and uncontrollable physical changes, which mostly happen in the riverbank. The uncontrollable use of the space decreases the quality and quantity of the open space. There are three big rivers flowing through Yogyakarta, one of which is Winongo River. This river crosses some district. One of districts which is crossed by this river is Kricak. In this district, there are some villages which are close to the city, such as Bangunrejo. The existence of a dense populated village creates a typical character of a village in the middle of a city, moreover there a river crossing this village. The character and local potential of this village makes the government of Yogyakarta and Winongo Asri Communication Forum to do revitalization in order to create better environment (ecology, urban area), aesthetic, and preserve the local culture so that Yogyakarta will have a good image as a healthy city and advance in development and population. According to the government of Yogyakarta in the report Antara Revitalisasi Sungai Winongo (2009) open space in Winongo river bank should be accommodate peoples needs and support local people potential (economy, social, culture, and ecology). The approach used was a livability condition of public open space and for the analysing process was helped by quantitative technique using Depthmap program. By using descriptive method, which focused on livability degree of open space as an important element supporting living environment, would strengthen qualitative analysis to be more real. Some public open spaces were selected in analysing process as representatives of different typology on chosen locus, Bangunrejo. The conclusion that could be drawn from the discussion was how livable space functioned as a public open space that consists of configuration component, visual quality, character, and local potential in a village space system, space with integration and high visible value. On the other hand, if there was a gap, adjustment would be needed to make it functioned optimally. After drawing conclusion, the design of public open space was created based on analysis to achieve optimal livability, so that the public open space in Bangunrejo village could be a part of livable open space in Winongo riverbank.
