- The purpose of this study is to learn about the development of local batik (cloth that is traditionally made using a manual wax-resist dyeing technique), the responses of local batik makers to batik products from China and to analyze the impacts of China�s batik products to the economic security of the families of local batik makers in the Administrative Village of Jenggot, South Pekalongan Subdistrict. The research method employed is survey with simple qualitative and quantitative descriptive approach obtained from secondary and primary sources. The sources of information are derived from the literatures related to the problem being studied, verbal interviews with respondents and informants. The outcome of the research demonstrates that improving the quality of local batik products by entrepreneurs as well as policies and strategies employed by the government in order to preserve and develop the local batik products have produced a positive result. The increasing values of local batik production has, thus far, shown the benefits of the ASEAN-China Free Trade (ACFTA) agreement, resulting in influx of batik products from China. The local people or local batik makers do not consider the Chinese products as a threat since the local batik products have better quality and more artistic value. The other positive effect is noticeable in the economic resilience of the families of local batik makers. As measured by their level of incomes and expenditures, they showed an average economic resistance, which is above the poverty line or not poor.
