  • Background: Silver dust exposure has been reported to cause damage to the upper respiratory tract and lower respiratory tract. Irritation also occurs in the upper respiratory tract such as itchy, red or watery eyes, sneezing, stuffy or runny nose and sore throat. The concentration of silver in normal human tissues is low. Found 96% of workers have increased the concentration of silver in urine and 92% had a high concentration of silver in the blood. Mucociliary system is the first line of defense system of airways is very important. This system is the first barrier between the epithelium of the body's defense to the virus / bacteria with other foreign objects. Here the motion of the cilia of the nasal mucosa or commonly known as nasal mucociliary transport will slow down, so that the time required to evacuate particles or dust from rice Limen to koana be longer. Objective: To determine the correlation between the length of time working with the nose mukosilia transport workers in the production of silver in Kotagede Yogyakarta. Method: The study design using the analytic cross sectional study to examine the correlation between long working with nasal mucociliary transport time to the workers in the production of silver Kotagede Yogyakarta. MCT time measured with saccharin test. saccharin particle with size 0.5-1 mm placed at the front end of the inferior turbinate, then the time measured until the sweetness tasted in the throat in minutes Statistical Analysis: The statistical test used is the Pearson correlation test if the data is normally distributed, Spearman's correlation test, if the data are not normally distributed. The degree of confidence that is used in the study is 95%, with a significance level of 5% (p <0.05). Results: The test results of the correlation between long working with nasal mucociliary transport time on the silver workers showed a correlation coefficient r = 0.856 (p <0.05). There was statistically significant correlation with the direction of a positive correlation, as well as the strength of the correlation is very strong (0.80 to 1.00). Coefficient determinant in this study of 0.793, meaning that the effect of long working 79.3% of the nasal mucociliary transport time, while 20.7% of influences by other factors. Conclusion: there is a positive correlation between long working with nasal mucociliary transport time to the workers in the production of silver Yogyakarta Kotagede very strong correlation with strength. Older work more dominant role in nasal mucociliary transport time duration compared to other variables.
