- This thesis was written based on reality that there is the changing paradigm in international security issue. Paradigm in international security has been changed several times. it began with classic point of view that strategy and threat for a nation is in the form of foreign invasion in military way, then it changed to economic power as the main strategy in security struggle. This thesis has three main purposes . Firstly, to analyse national resilience elements as base power for Indonesia in international trade agreement. Secondly, to analyse the implementation of ACFTA in Indonesia. And Thirdly, to analyse the implication of ACFTA to national security resilience. This thesis was done in Indonesia as a qualitative descriptive research with some methods like in-depth interview with government representatives and qualified scientists. Furthermore, there are open interviews with merchants in Tanah Abang market in Jakarta. The other methods are documentation, observation, and literature study. The writer found some paradoxes from this research about the implementation of globalization mechanism like ACFTA. First of all in economic area, ACFTA has weakened national prosperity and sovereignty values. however at the same time, globalization has opportunity for every nation to increase their national economic benefit through trade efficiency and the global expansion of market share for national product. The paradox was also found in the security area. It is not about classic security with military confrontation but how it relates to national sovereignty in decision making process without international pressure and intervention and the changing challenge and threat to national security through economic power. Economy become imperialism instrument in modern era and it is referred as capitalist imperialism. That new imperialism agenda is implemented in the form of economy cooperation with globalization mechanism that tend to degrade sovereignty for nation to decide national policy. However, economy cooperation also has a prospect to sustain a new source of national power and bargaining power to face global pressure. It also has an opportunity to gain barganing power through political friendship with new emerging powers like China.
