- Construction business is a unique business activity when observing from the perspective of the services type that are produced and the labor involved in it. . The important factors that are unique and become a challenge for the construction company is the quality of the project, time completion time and project cost. One of the company's efforts to win the competition associated with the quality of products or services improvements is obtaining an ISO 9001:2008 certification. It is believed that the certification have a positif benefits for doing the business in construction sector. The purpose of this study is to determine the implementation of ISO 9001:2008 and recognize the expectations and the reality of quality management system implementation that will be useful for company strategy formulation. This study utilized a survey of the quality management system at PT XYZ, a construction company for the oil and gas sector in Indonesia. The analysis shows that the implementation of ISO 9001:2008 at PT XYZ can improve company�s service quality. The biggest constrain in implementing the quality management system is the amount of time required to review the work related to auditing system. The t-test analysis result shows that there are significant differences between the expectations and reality of the principles of quality management. The quality management factors that are considered to be successful and achieve customer expectation are customer focus, personel involvement, process approach, continuous improvements and decision making based on facts. The strategy of improving the company�s quality management by using ISO 9001:2008 approach is the Total Quality Management (TQM) implementation which is focusing on the quality management principles of leadership, systems approach to management, and mutually beneficial supplier relationships to meet customer expectation.
