- Empirical research on the role of community of practice (CoP) is mostly done in the context of the company, while other contexts are limited. Although many researchers have examined the teachers� CoP, but the empirical evidence on the role of CoP in context of school organization has not been obtained. In fact, CoP offers a collaborative structure that facilitates the creation and transfer of knowledge for greater innovation. It is therefore necessary to study the role of CoP in context of school organization to fill existing research gap. The purpose of this study was to describe things related to CoP that followed by teachers and roles of CoP in knowledge creation and transfer processes in school organization. Type of research was descriptive research and the method of data collection using questionnaires and focus group discussion. A number of teachers that working in schools agencies in Indonesia were taken as respondents. Data of research were analyzed with descriptive statistical analysis method. Based on the results of research and analysis, CoP has many and varied roles associated with the creation and transfer of knowledge to school. Evidenced by the high ratings from respondents toward the roles of CoP. The highest value from the roles of CoP is twofold, that is to facilitate solving problems quickly and effectively, and to improve the efficiency of the use of knowledge. Based on this study, CoP proved instrumental to enhance the creation and transfer of knowledge, especially in school organization.
