- The purpose of the study was identifying the domain knowledge and the factors that become barriers to knowledge transfer in PT Indaco Coating Industry Karanganyar, using the theoretical framework developed by Szulanski. Problems arise at the level of knowledge transfer of the management and staff, and resulted in frequent delays completion of the work, the work outside the standard of quality and repeatability errors in the company, especially in three parts, namely the Electronic Data Processing, Research & Development, and Engineering and Workshop. This issue becomes important because it can interfere with a smooth process, product innovation, and services within the company. In this study, researcher used a qualitative descriptive method. Data were obtained through interviews. Data obtained from the interviews were analyzed using content analysis, which syntax the keywords of the respondents. The results showed there are four factors that hinder knowledge transfer PT Indaco Coating Industry Karanganyar. The first obstacle relates to the credibility of the source of knowledge and lack of knowledge sources. The second barrier relates to the message is ambiguous message and not proven knowledge in the process. The third obstacle is the lack of receivers associated with the absorption of staff in receiving knowledge, and lack of routine use of knowledge caused by the level of education and background and previous experience .
