- Mastoiditis is an infection of the mastoid air cells. More often caused by complications of chronic otitis media, chronic suppurative otitis media (CSOM) is a chronic inflammation of the middle ear with perforation of the tympanic membrane and the release of secretions from the ear more than two months, either persistent or intermittent. Chronic suppurative otitis media type of malignant (MCSOM) is CSOM accompanied by cholesteatom. In plain film provides a soft tissue mass (density decreases) in the epitimpanum or mesotimpanum, and sclerotic in the mastoid and bone destruction. This study aimed to obtain the value of accuracy, sensitivity and specificity of malignant chronic mastoiditis in plain film mastoid Schuller position. Methods this study used a retrospective design with the type of diagnostic test for malignant chronic mastoiditis plain film in 87 patients CSOM has done plain mastoid Schuller's position in the department of Radiology Installation Dr. Sardjito Yogyakarta taken from months January 2011 to December 2012 who meet the inclusion and exclusion criteria were then compared with the gold standard for the assessment cholesteatom on the mastoidectomy that indicating a malignant chronic mastoiditis. The main data plain mastoid and the mastoidectomy results made 2x2 table then tested the validity. Results : malignant chronic mastoiditis (mastoditis with kholesteatom) of plain mastoid Schuller position compared to the gold standard mastoidectomy have accuracy values 85,5%, sensitivity 91.66%, specificity 42.85%, positive predictive value of 91.66%, the value negative predictive 42.85% for cases of malignant chronic otitis media suppurative chronic (MCSOM), so it can be as basic diagnostic expertise and reference checks are simple, convenient, easy, and inexpensive.
