  • This research consisted of observing the growth and the seed yield in an intercropped field between black soybean and sweet sorghum in a different implantation lenght. The research conducted from May to September in year 2012, located in Kebun Tridharma Banguntapan (KPB) Faculty of Agriculture, Gadjah Mada University, Bantul, Yogyakarta, with an elevation ±100 meters above the sea current. The research conducted in Randomize Completely Block Design (RCBD) basis to learn a differentiated treatment on Duncan Multiple Range Test in 95 percent trust level. The size of the implantations slot was 4 x 7 m2, with six different treatment and replicated three times each. The treatment that were given was: A (intercropped with 3 : 1 row combination), B (intercropped with 4 : 1 row combination), C (intercropped with 5 : 1 row combination), D (intercropped with 6 : 1 row combination), E (monocultured black soybean), F (monocultured sweet sorghum). The purpose of this research was to learn the growth, the crops, and crops quality of black soybean intercropped with sweet sorghum, also to know optimum amount of row used in intercropping process. The outcome that resulted in this research proofed that intercropped black soybean fields (treatment A to D) produced lower dryseeds per acrerather than the monocultured one. Intercropped sweet sorghum field (treatment A, B, C, and D) produced the same result per acre as the monocultured one. Intercropping between black soybean and sweet sorghum determined the quality of black soybean compared to the quality of monocultured black soybean, especially the hypothetical vigor characteristic of the seed. The results of this research proposed to use treatment A, B, C, and D when using intercropping style.
