- This study was aimed at finding: (1) the farmers� reasons to plant purging nuts, (2) the role of farmer groups on farming purging nuts, (3) the influence of farming purging nuts on farmers� income, and (4) the feasibility of purging nuts farming and their contribution to the farmers� income. Snowball sampling was applied in this research, to get 30 farmers respondent who plant purging nuts from Kanigoro and Monggol villages, Saptosari, Gunungkidul Dictrict. The inferential statistics analysis (Chi Square Indepedency Test) and t-test applied used to analyze the data of the research. The results show that the farmers� reason to plant purging nuts was to support their income. Social aspects through the role of farmer groups had more function as a medium of unit production learning and as a forum for farmer groups cooperation at Kanigoro and Monggol villages. There is no relationship between the roles of farmer groups with the income of purging nuts farming. Purging nuts farming deserves to be developed, although their contribution to the household income of farmers is small (< 25%).
