  • Forest resource has so many kinds of roles and functions for human life. The number of functions and forest users need sustainable forest management. One principal of forest sustainability is the importance of participation from all forest stakeholders in order to actualize the good governance. One party gotten involve is Non-governmental Organization. For the last decades, NGOs role as a new entity in forest resource management has evolved. The purpose of this research is to find out Perhimpunan Shorea role in ecosystem restoration program at Kepuharjo village, Cangkringan, Sleman, DIY. This research uses qualitative approach with case study method, focuses on a case intensively and detailedly. In proofing the validity and reliability of this research, the researcher uses data triangulation by doing depth interview, direct observation, participative observation, and documented study. The data analysis method is done by data reduction, data display, conclusion making, and verification according to interactive model data analysis by Miles and Huberman (1992). The result of this research shows that Perhimpunan Shorea received foreign donation to undertake the eco-restoration project and did that as a mediator in accommodating stakeholderâ��s interests, program executor, program facilitator, motivator, and also dynamist in developing self-supporting and community participation at Kepuharjo village. Nevertheless the majority of the activities are more top-down oriented, causing good governance scheme in actualizing sustainable forest management which ought to create no dominant actors in determining others becomes inaccessible.
