  • A child with high social-competence will have a foundation to develop a good life because the competence means the skill to build a relation to others. This study is aimed at finding out empirically the relation between childrenâ�� perception on fatherâ��s authoritative parenting pattern and childrenâ�� perception on motherâ��s authoritative parenting pattern to the social competence among children at the age of 9-10. The subjects are 60 children, 9-10 years old, at fourth grade of elementary school in SD Negeri Kranji I and SD Negeri Kranji II Purwokerto and they are cared by their father and mother. Hypothesis, there is a positive relation between childrenâ��s perception to fatherâ��s authoritative parenting pattern and childrenâ��s perception to motherâ��s authoritative parenting pattern and the social competence in 9-10 year-old children. The instruments of the research are scales of social competence, of childrenâ��s perception on fatherâ��s authoritative parenting pattern, and that of childrenâ��s perception on motherâ��s authoritative parenting pattern. The analysis data is done by multiple-correlative test. The result of analysis shows there is a significant relation between the childrenâ�� perception on fatherâ��s authoritative parenting pattern and the childrenâ�� perception motherâ��s authoritative parenting pattern and the social competence of the children, as it is indicated by R value = 0,709 and p = 0,00 (p<0,05). The effective contribution is 50,2%. Individually, the research concludes that there is a significant relation between the childrenâ�� perception on fatherâ��s authoritative parenting pattern and the social competence of the children, as it is indicated by r value = 0,634 and p = 0,00 (p<0,01) with its effective contribution of 40,3% and there is a significant relation between the childrenâ�� perception on motherâ��s authoritative parenting pattern and the social competence of the children, as it is indicated by r value = 0,672 and p = 0,00 (p<0,01). This gives an effective contribution of 45,2%.
