  • Most of recent nationalism studies in the Arab literature as third world literature have concerned on nationalism as fighting against colonizer. Scholars have mainly focused on colonizer as central problem of colonization. However, they have given less attention to colonized people as central issue of colonization. The lack of focus on colonized people has aroused my interest to make a study of ambivalence on nationalism movement in âAudat al-Firdaus written by BÄkathÄ«r. The process of ambivalence can be seen from nationality expressions as ambivalent action through actorsâ expressions. Through post-structural perspective, particularly on ambivalence of Homi K. Bhabha, this study attempts to scrutinize ambivalent nationalism in the AF. The study applies colonial discourse analysis as a research method in exposing power relation in the play. This research reveals that ambivalent nationalism in the AF did not separate from colonizer and colonized encounter. In the movement against colonizer, colonized people not only fight colonizer but also against colonized. They attempt to unite their selves, but it precisely shows their differences. When they idealize unity and cooperation among colonized, in the same time, both of them exactly be in conflict. The case can be described through space and time, love and hate, and unity and diversity.
