  • EEG (Electroencephalogram) is a brain signal widely applied in the system of Brain Computer Interface (BCI). It is because in taking the data of EEG signal the non-invasive method is used by positioning the electrodes onto the surface of head skin. To make it applicable in the system of BCI, a prominent and constant pattern of brain activities comes to be necessary. Such pattern should be the one appearing because of certain stimulus given to the volunteers. In this research, the pattern of the stimulus is in the form of movement and imagination of motor movement of turning right and turning left. In this case, the form and the position of the EEG signal pattern because of the stimulus are not known. This is due to the signal pattern and the speed of brain responses in each individual unequal. Additionally, the EEG signal appearing from the imagination of turning left and turning right will be in loss in a variety of other signals emerging for the activities occurred in all parts of the brain. Other disturbances might also come from the outside of the brain either from the environment or from the electrical activities of other body tissues. Hence, a proper method of processing the EEG signal comes to be critical in order to obtain the specific pattern of brain activities in imagination of turning left and turning right in a very low condition of SNR (signal to noise ratio). In this research, EEG signal, generated from both the movement stimulus and imaginary motor movement of turning right and turning left, is measured in the area of motor cortex that is by positioning the electrodes in the points of C3, C4 , P3, and P4 (Central and Parietal). The phase in processing the EEG signal includes the initial processing in enhancing SNR, extraction of the specific characteristic required through the process of signal correlation. Based on the regular form from the result of signal correlation the candidate wavelet as the representative of the signal of turning left and turning right is started to modify. The research result in the form of the wavelet made through the method of curve fitting consists of three wavelets for turning right and other three for turning left that are helpful to accommodate a variety of rhythms in the brain wave of different volunteers. Meanwhile, the result of the test through the method of the correlation of the wavelets towards the testing data shows that, in order to be more accurate in use, each of volunteer has various scales of wavelet. The result in the averaged accuracy in the testing phase of 22 volunteers for four types of movement includes 76% for the movement of turning right, 76% for the movement of turning left, 74% for the imagination of turning right and 72% for the imagination of turning left.
