- The Hundred Secret Senses delineates the relationship between two halfsister � Olivia Yee and Kwan Li. The novel consists of two parts � Olivia�s narrative about San Fransisco and China of the 90�s and Kwan�s about the nineteenth-century China and a small Chinese village during the Cultural Revolution. The raising of abstract system in modern life could make sequestration. Ontological insecurity made human separate themselves from daily routinity. Sequestration will give human bigger ontological security but it will also make then more alienate in social life. The aim of this research is to unfold the negotiation effort of self-identity reconstruction through modernity and self identity theory by Anthony Giddens,. Identity as a project, something which is created, on going process, a value of human life. On globalization and modern life, lifestyles become an important things to show self-identity. The existence of self depends on the values they believe. At last, selfidentity can be determinated based on the uniqueness and values implication of self. The negotiation which is used by someone to expresses theirselves is a part of their effort to search their personal lifestyles. The style desicion is up to the human itself as a cultural agent and a part of social system. As the consequences, there will be negative or positife image which is appear because of those style things.
