  • Kauman Jogjakarta is a heritage region in the center of Jogjakarta city. It has its own unique character of urban housing space configuration form which influences its microclimate comfort. Its existing conditions are 80% land covered by buildings and artificial coverage, small amount of vegetation and large coverage of concrete and dark brick stone which lead to the lack of thermal comfort for the most of its inhabitants. Simulation is a method to gain the most comfortable condition in Kauman by modificating the elements of urban housing which can lead to better thermal comfort. This research used Envimet V.3.1. to know the influence of some modifications of urban housing elements which influence thermal comfort condition, such as land coverage, space configuration and vegetation. Modification with presence of those three elements has the best result among seven types of modifications. The space configuration in urban housing with perpendicular circulation pattern and some green open spaces connected directly to circulation area is better than existingâ��s space configuration in case of gaining the thermal comfort. The land coverage material with a type of light-colored sandstone is better than concrete or dark brick stone in the same case of gaining the thermal comfort. The heavy dense leafs of trees with 10-15 metres height and individual plant pattern, lead to better condition of thermal comfort than existingâ��s plant pattern. Finally, combination of those types of elemenets must be applied to gain thermal comfort condition in urban housing.
