- Segara Anakan area consisting of highlands and lowlands has a wealth of invaluable natural resources. Degradations in this area is due to the sedimentation that can not be controlled, resulting in some derivative effects such as a decline in fishery resources of Segara Anakan and environmental crises. This problem trigged some efforts conservation among the Kampung Laut community, especially in the forms of managing mangrove independently. This study aimed to describe the Kampung Laut community participation in the conservation of Segara Anakan area. Conservation by community in this area could be called as community-based conservation. Conservation practices are carried out in the form of mangrove rehabilitation, forestry and mangrove pond development trenches (sylvo fishery). The emergence of public participation in environmental conservation in the area of Segara Anakan especially in mangrove management began in early 2000 until todays. Most types of participation is provided in the form of labor. This relates to the participation of the most intensive phase followed the public is at the time of the activity. The success of the program can be seen from the extent of conservation of mangrove land with good growing conditions and reduced illegal logging in the region, especially in the mangrove independent. The success of mangrove conservation in the group where participation is high in the planning and implementation as well as bottom-up pattern of activity in which people are directly involved so that the resulting ownership of the activity. Factors influencing people's participation is the work, culture and leadership / local institutions as well as the motivation arising from the form of an attempt to remove the negative stigma.
