- Overdenture is a partial denture or complete denture that covers all the root surface or implant. Overdenture can use tooth, tooth root or implant as an abutment. A magnetic attachment can be used to add more retention. The aim of this research was to know the effect of the instalment of the two magnetic attachment position on overdenture retention mandibular complete denture. The study was conducted on 10 mandibular complete dentures for each position. The position of the magnet was perpendicular of the median line on the teeth 33 and 43 and the diagonal position of the median line on the teeth 33 and 45. The attachment used was MAGFIT TM DX 800 cylindrical shape. Magnet was attached on the mandibular complete denture and keeper was attached on the lower jaw edentulous model. Overdenture was attached to modified Van Kampen. Retention was measured by pulling the mandibular complete denture which has been attached to edentulous model. Statistical method was used t-test with significance p< 0.05. The results showed that there was significant difference between the overdenture mandibular complete denture with perpendicular magnetic position of the median line than the diagonal magnetic position of the median line (p < 0.05). In conclusion overdenture retention mandibular complete denture with diagonal magnetic position of the median line was provide more retention than the perpendicular one.
