  • The growth of Village Poboya in Town Palu as traditional gold mining area, beside brings the positive and negative impacts. The aims of the study is to observe the types and factors that cause the conflict and also conflict management system used by the government and customary council of Poboya. The study also explore the succesfulnes of the system in handling the conflict. The study is an inductive research using qualitative exploration where the data is acquired by comprehensive interviewing the people in response to the conflict. There are two types of conflict found in gold mining area of Poboya, that are spatial and social conflicts. Spatial conflict occurs due to the weak coordination among local and central departments or councils. While the social conflict occurs due to the transformation of traditional function, that is the absence of formal rule in managing the mining activity in Poboya area. The resolution of spatial conflict is held using role approach and mediation by the governor of Central Sulawesi. While the social conflict is approached by mediation of government and costumary council of Poboya. Besides law enforcement, mediation also needed in resolution of spatial conflicts. The success level of management and conflict resolution adopted by government is indicated by the completion of spatial conflict through collaboration of rule approach and mediation. The research concludes that the customary council of Poboya is proven success in completing the social conflict in gold mining area of Poboya.
