  • Introduction: infant mortality is still a major health problem in Indonesia. Reduced infant mortality to 23/1000 live birth on 2015 is one goal of Millenium Development Goals (MDGs). Low birth weight is one contributor to Infant mortality. There was increased infant mortality in Yogyakarta city from 5,55/1000 live birth (2008) to 9,42/1000 live birth (2012) and low birth weight increased from 2.96% in 2008 to 4.8% in 2011. Objective: to identify association between body mass index, maternal weight gain and passive smoking with LBW in Yogyakarta City. Methods: study design was observational with case control study. Cases were mother who delivered baby <2,500 grams and control was mother who delivered baby â�¥2,500 gram. IOM standard (2009) using for cut off point good BMI and gestational weight gain. Total samples 282 with ratio 1:1. Chi Square test and logistic regression to identify the association between independent factors and LBW with CI 95% and p<0,05 . Stratification analysis used to examine the potenssial confounder factors and modification effect. Result: pre pregnancy BMI significantly associated with LBW (OR=1,97
