- Prostate enlargment is a problem that often occurs in men with symptom such as of urinary tract obstruction, and describes the gland hyperplasia periurethra that located above verumontanum extends to symfisis pubis, indents the bladder base. Measurement of prostate with transabdominal ultrasound is quite accurate. In addition to the images obtained are very good, it is not traumatic, very well tolerated by patients. Bladder is anatomically situated at the most anterior organ in the pelvis, so that on transabdominal ultrasound to measure prostate volume, the sound waves will pass through. Here the bladder functions as an acoustic window on pelvic sonography examination. This study aims to determine the bladder volume as fairly reliable acoustic window for sonographic examination to measure prostate volume. This research method uses cross-sectional design with 30 patients of benign prostate enlargement who have met the criteria for inclusion and exclusion in the Installation Radiology RSUP Dr. Sardjito in September to October. Each of the subjects get treatment entring sterile water to the bladder through a catheter with a volume of 100 cc, and prostate volume measured by transabdominal sonography by two radiologists. After it is added 100 cc. so that its volume to 200 cc. The results is statistically analyzed by paired t test with significance values p < 0.05. Reliability transabdominal sonographic examination for the measurement of prostate volume at 100 cc of bladder volume is estimated to same the volume of 200 cc.
