  • Balinese society has been known having architectural uniqueness which widely considers harmony with environment/nature and rich in intangible meanings included in Balinese-traditional architecture values that inspired by Balinese Hinduism Faith. These Balinese-traditional architecture values have been inherent in an entity of Hinduism faith followed by Balinese society, so that these will be brought as they believe in Hinduism religion alone. On the other hand, Balinese society is also known having adaptive force of creativity, and innovative ideas in self-adapting to their environment, including architecture. This research used phenomenological paradigm, with research scope until transcendental issues hidden in empiricism. This research objective was to understand concepts of Balinese residence seen from study of traditional architecture (Bali) and effect of environment surrounding (in Yogyakarta). Initial steps of research started from way Balinese people implement values of Balinese traditional architecture inherent in Balinese Hinduism faith in their houses, and associated with their adaptive force in keeping harmony with environment surrounding, both physically and non-physically. The results of research indicated that concepts of Balinese residence development cannot be independent of concept of association of Balinese people with ancestors (kawitan) whose implementation consists of association with provenance houses and religion (Balinese Hinduism). This kawitan association concept contains meaning of association of spiritual values, physical association as house identity, adaptive force, and ritual activities implemented by Balinese people. These finding concepts are born as results of adaptation to Balinese traditional architecture values with environmental condition in Yogyakarta, inspired by Balinese Hinduism faith.
