- Building walls can be made of blocks, but this block is usually made of a mixture of cement, sand and water, that has a high specific gravity, making it less efficient in the time of construction and to earthquakes resistance. In this study the usual brick material are replaced with a relatively lighter material such as styrofoam and pumice with a reinforcement coating 0.5 cm thick of sand mortar and strapping bands, so expect the resulting block becomes lighter, strong and resistant to the effects of earthquake . The purpose of this study was to determine the physical and mechanical properties of concrete blocks which include: density, flexural strength, deflection, stiffness, compressive strength and water uptake. Bricks were made of a mixture of cement, styrofoam and pumice sand. Volume ratio of the styrofoam block is substituted by 0%, 20%, 40%, 60%, 80% and 100 % with pumice sand, each of 3 specimens. Flexural strength test block size adjusted according to SNI 03-0349-1989. The compressive strength of test specimens and mortar cube-shaped water uptake. In this study the blocks were coated with a thickness of 0.5 cm mortar made from a mixture of white cement, fly ash, sand normal, and viscocrete. Strapping band is also attached to the block surface. The results showed styrofoam volume of 0%, 20%, 40%, 60%, 80% and 100% in a block gives heavy styrofoam bricks without mortar coating of 8,647 kg
