- The capability of a firm to conduct innovation depends on its knowledge resources. This capability can be utilized by facilitating knowledge sharing in the firm. However, knowledge sharing activities cannot be happened automatically. Therefore, leadership plays significant role to encourage knowledge sharing particularly in the context of small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). The purposes of this study are to examine the role of transformational and transactional leaderships on knowledge sharing activities (i.e. knowledge donating and collecting) and to examine the effect of knowledge sharing on innovation. From the survey among 176 firms, the study shows that transformational leadership is more dominant applied by the manager of SMEs. The transformational leadership has a positive effect on knowledge sharing. The knowledge sharing activities have a significant effect on innovation capability of a firm. The study contributes to provide better understanding on knowledge sharing activities in the setting of SMEs in Province DIY.
