- Research on the implementation of different religions marriages in Padang city after entry into law No. 1 of 1974 on marriage aims to determine the basis of Department of Civil and Residence Office of Padang city recording of marriages of different religions and how the process is? The reason for the marriage of different religions and legal consequences after it happen in Padang city. This research is a juridical sociological (socio legal research). The data was collected through literature research and field research. Library research is done by studying the law materials related to legal issues. Fieldwork was conducted at the Department of Civil and Resident Office of Padang, Padang Court 1 A class, Religious Affairs Office of West Padang district, ST Theresia Church of South Padang, Niho Banuha Kristo Protestant Church and Tri Dharma Padang Shrine, using direct communication techniques by means of interview guidelines. The data has been collected then analyzed in a qualitative way and the conclusion is presented in a descriptive report. 4 Based on the results of research showed that the Department of Civil and Resident Office of Padang City has never done recording interfaith marriage even though the implementation is ongoing. The same conditions also happen in Padang Court 1A class. The main reason why the marriage of different religions could be happen because of the presence of mutual love among potential mates of different religions who wish to build a home without changing the beliefs of their own religion. Besides, the church willing to give dispensation and facilitate the implementation of the marriage partners of different religions and different religions legalize their marriage after a non-Catholics couples make a statement as a candidate for Catholics who is studying Catholics. The legal consequences of the implementation of interfaith marriages lead to legal uncertainty regarding the status of children and joint property. A marriage of different religions in the city of Padang is dominated by Chiness � Tiongha ethnic where the male partner is Buddhist and woman is Catholics. In fact, interfaith marriages have no problems in their household including family kinship relationships of the couples.
