- The purpose of this study is to analyze the performance of export-import, competitiveness and the factors that affect export-import of rice the Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam. Type of data used secondary data of 1980-2009. To determine the fluctuation of export-import trade were applied trend and trade specialization ratio. To find out the analysis of competitiveness were run revealed comparative advantage (RCA) and accelaration ratio (AR). To investigate the factors affecting the export and import used corecction error model (ECM). Trends in the Philippines and Indonesia rice exports showed a decline while imports both showed an increase and in the reimport stage. Trends in exports and imports Thailand showed an increase and in the maturity stage. Vietnam export trend showed an increase and imports trend showed a decline and in the maturity stage. Philippines and Indonesia have low competitiveness of rice, while Thailand and Vietnam have high competitiveness but the exports acceleration is low. Exports of the Philippines and Indonesia are influenced rice export prices and the efficiency of input. Thailand's export affected by the availability per capita and efficiency of input, while Vietnam's export is affected by availability per capita and the exchange rate of US$ dollar against the dong. Philippine imports affected by prices of imported rice and efficiency of input while Indonesia imports is affected by per capita availability, import prices and efficiency of input. Thailand's imports are affected by import prices and dummy AFTA while imports of Vietnam affected by the production, world rice prices and real national income. AFTA are still not profitable for the member countries in the rice trade.
