  • Background: In Yogyakarta, the prevalence of type 2 diabetes mellitus according to the results Riskesdas 2007 of 3.8%, and prevalence of Impaired Glucose Tolerance (IGT) of 8.2% with a diagnoswasaccording to WHO 1999 and ADA, 2007. Minimun level of knowledge about type 2 DM influenced the incidence of complications, and affected the quality of life of patients with type 2 diabetes. Objective: The objective of this study was to determine the relationship between knowledge of health information on quality of life in patients with type 2 diabetes in endocrinology department of DR. Sardjito hospital Yogyakarta. Method: Cross sectional study with population were patients of type 2 diabetes The sample size formula (Lemeshow et al., 1997), based on the previous research calculated P= 50%, α= 5%, dan Î2= 80% (Rahmat, 2009). The total samples were 126 people. Univariabel data analysis using frequency distributions, bivariabel using one way ANOVA test, independent t test and correlation test, multivariable linear regression to test double. Results: There were 126 respondences, research carried out in endocrinology department of DR. Sardjito hospital Yogyakarta from January till February and attended by 120 people, where the majority of respondens were women (60%) and 40% male. Most age groups was 46-55 years of age (66%). T test analysis showed that the relationship between knowledge of health information on quality of life in patients with type 2 diabetes were significant on 6 domains of quality of life. Pearson correlation test showed that there was a significant relationship between the level of knowledge on the quality of life (p = 0.000 *). Knowledge (p = 0.000) and experience (p = 0.003) were the dominant factors affected the quality of life of patients. Conclusion: The level of health information knowledge has a significant relationship to the level of quality of life of patients with type 2 diabetes. Health education about type 2 diabetes was important to be given for increasing the level of health knowledge and the quality of life of patients with type 2 diabetes.
