  • Background: Infertility is still a problem that is often found. Antral Follicle Count (AFC) is the simplest to evaluate the success of induction of ovulation in addition to ovarian volume, ovarian stromal blood flow, and hormonal markers such as Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH), estradiol (E2) and Inhibin B. Objective: The purpose of this study is to predict the success of induction of ovulation by looking at Antral Follicle Count in patients who received ovulation induction with clomiphene citrate. Methods: This study is an observational cohort study design on 118 patients of reproductive age infertile women (20-38 years old) in the clinic of IKR, Sardjito Hospital Yogyakarta and Sadewa Hospital Yogyakarta (59 patients of AFC group â¥5 and 59 patients of AFC group <5) from August 2010 until November 2011 who received ovulation induction with clomiphene citrate. Results: In the group of AFC â¥5 , 57 (96.61%) patients had maturation of follicles whereas in the AFC <5 only 15 (25.42%) patients had maturation of follicles with RR 3.8 (95% CI 2.45 to 5.90) and p value <0.001 and the logistic regression analysis found that the AFC is the single significant predictor of follicular maturation with p value <0.001. Conclusion: Antral Follicle Count â¥5 provides a better success in patients who underwent ovulation induction with clomiphene citrate.
