- This study aims to describe the development of Tasikmalaya city. The city that originaly was administrative city �part of Tasikmalaya residence� experienced a status increase to be the autonomous city. The method applied for this study is a descriptive qualitative. The study found that after being autonomus city, the rapid development occurred in Tasikmalaya city in the forms of physics, infrastructures or economy aspects. The increase also occurred in education and health services. The implications of the change of city status is also the increasing social welfare. The research is recommends that the city development must consider the environment and to minimize the failure in change of city status. There are several things that must be considered as an additional requirements prospective the new autonomous region, those are (1) through preparation phase, (2) having a good development trend, (3) having local potentials, either natural or human resources, (4) having a support from all parties to become autonomus region.
