  • Study of preparation of chitosan and chitosan-TiO2 composite plastic at various chitosan concentration by solvent casting technique has been done. The composite plastics are expected to have higher UV radiation barrier properties than the chitosan plastic. The resulted plastics were characterized by Universal testing machine, FTIR, UV-Vis spectrophotometers and XRD. The UV-light barrier properties of the resulted plastics were tested by radiating the plastics under UV-light (λ = 254 nm) for 72 hours. The radiated plastics were then analyzed by FTIR, UV-Vis spectrophotometers and XRD. It is found that all chitosan-based plastics showed increasing absorbance at wavelength of 260-340 nm after UV-light radiation for 72h. The parent chitosan plastics were more susceptible to UV irradiation than the composite plastics of chitosan-TiO2 nanotube. Composite plastic of chitosan-TiO2 nanotube 0.05% (w/v) has shown the highest UV barrier properties.
