  • MnZn ferrite is one type of ferrite based-magnet which is largely developed and studied due to its better magnetic properties performance compared to other ferrite based-magnet. The extensive recent study of MnZn ferrite mostly was conducted to examine its magnetic and electric properties. This paper will discuss thermal characteristics of MnZn ferrite, which was obtained from technical/industrial raw material ofmagnet industry in Indonesia. The initial raw material, consist of MnO, ZnO, and Fe2O3, was composed into MnxZn1-xFe2O4 ferrite with x = 0.2; 0.35; 0.65; 0.8. Those composition were then pre-mixed using High Energy Milling (HEM) for 10 minutes. The as-mixed samples were then characterized using Differential Thermal Analyzer (DTA) prototype made by Research Center for Physics - LIPI from room temperature to 900 °C. The characterization results show the increase of endothermic reaction total energy by increasingMn to Zn ratio in ferrite mixture. They also infer the formation of intermediate phase at Mn to Zn ratio of 0.65 : 0.35, which is represented by the appearance of new endothermic peak. It can be concluded that the increase of Mn to Zn ratio gives the increase of total reaction energy and the shifting of phase transformation temperature. Keywords: MnZn ferrite, Thermal characteristic, Differential Thermal Analyzer.
