  • Research on the addition of Titanium dioxide (TiO2) nanoparticles in polyethylene plastic resin on the inside layer of the jerry cans for the packaging of processed food product has been carried out. This research aims to obtain the plastic packaging that has good barrier properties so in addition that to protecting the packaged product, also meet the requirements or regulations as food packaging. This research uses packaging made of two layers of jerry cans the size of 20 liters, while the concentration of TiO2 nanoparticlesused were 0.05 %, 0.1%and 0.15%. Packaging has been test to get data of morphology, physical properties, and migration of heavy metals. The results showed that the addition of TiO2 nanoparticles affect tensile strength, elongation, modulus of elasticity and the value of izod impact strength of plastic jerry cans. The results also showed that the migrated heavy metals, the fraction of n-hexane extract and xylene soluble fraction of the generated packing meet the requirements for food packaging in accordance with the Regulation of the National Agency of Drug and Food of the Republic of Indonesia No: HK. 03.1.23.07.11.6664 in 2011 on the Control of Food Packaging. Keywords: TiO2 nanoparticles, Pretreatment TiO2, Plastic jerry cans, Food packaging.
