  • This research aims at describing the method of teaching writing applied by the second year teacher at SMP N 7 Pemalang. It is conducted to know the objectives of teaching writing, and the advantages and disadvantages using STAD method. This research is a descriptive qualitative research. The researcher collects the data by observing the English class and conducting in interview with the teacher. The data include syllabus, writing materials, field notes and interview scripts. And the methods of collecting the data are observation, interview, and documents. From the data analysis of the research finding and discussion, the researcher draw the conclusion. The first, the method used by the teacher in teaching writing at the second year students of SMP N 7 Pemalang is STAD. The second, the advantages are; (1) The student can explore their ideas, (2) The students can increase their confidence, (3) The students can help each other. The disadvantages are; (1) The students doesn’t have a note, (2) There aren’t active student in teaching learning process.
