  • The objectives of the study are to describe the teaching learning process of increasing speaking competence of the fourth year of SD Al-Azhar Syifa Budi Solo and to know whether or not teaching speaking by using jigsaw can increase the students’ speaking competence. This study is an action research, it was implemented in SD Al-Azhar Syifa Budi Solo, especially Muadz class which consists 26 students as the subject of the research. The qualitative data in this research are narration in teaching speaking while the quantitative data in this research are the scores of pre-test and post test. The sources of the data are event, informant, and document. She uses observation, interview, and document to collecting the data. The technique of analyzing data are reducing the data, presenting the data, and verifying the data. The result of the study shows that the students’ speaking skill is increased. The students accepted and joined the jigsaw implementation because they could follow the cooperative learning principles and jigsaw components well. The result showed that the mean score of pre-test is 71,53, while the scores of post test cycle I is 80,46, and in post test cycle II is 86,61. The students in very good category, in pre-test just 3 students, while in post test cycle I is 10 students, and in post test cycle II is 22 students. It means that there is significant difference of students’ achievement that after implementation is better than before. Its means the teaching speaking using jigsaw is successful to improve students’ speaking skill to learn speaking English.
