- Background: Menstrual pain is a painful symptoms that arise during or before the first period of the menstrual cycle, usually in the form of pain (cramps) in the stomach that occurs in 24-36 hours, occurs due to excessive increase in the hormone prostaglandin. Deep Breathing Exercise is deep breathing exercises that focus on concentration and breathing relaxation. Objective: To determine the effect of Deep Breathing Exercise on Primary Dysmenorrhea in S1 Physiotherapy students Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta. Method: Quasi-experimental methods one group pretest-posttest, ie 30 respondents S1 student of Physiotherapy by deep breathing exercise by sitting cross-legged without a backrest for a month with a frequency of exercise 5 times a day in a session where there is 3x repetition. Pain was measured using the VAS. Analysis of data using SPSS.23 the shapiro wilk test and paired t-test. Results: Data were normally distributed after the shapiro wilk test with pretest sig (p) 0,488 and posttest sig (p) .104 There is the effect of deep breathing exercise against menstrual pain primers S1 Physiotherapy student Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta after being paired t- test with sig (p) = 0.0001. Conclusion: There Effect of Deep Breathing Exercise against menstrual pain primers S1 Physiotherapy student Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta.
