- Orthosiphon stamineus contains flavonoid found on its leaves, roots, and flowers which has an effect to stimulate pancreas to produce insulin. To determine the effect of 70% ethanolic extract of Orthosiphon stamineus roots in decreasing blood glucose level of white male Wistar rats induced by alloxan. It was an experimental study using pre and post-test with controlled group design method. The animals used were 25 white male Wistar rats divided into 5 treatment groups: 2 ml/200g distilled water (negative control), 0.126 mg/200g glibenclamide (positive control), with the doses of extract I 50 mg/200g, II 150 mg/200g, and III 250 mg/200g of body-weight this study was done for 14 days. Kruskall-Wallis test result showed p = 0.000 which means there was significant differences on blood glucose level reduction. The doses of 70% ethanolic extract of Orthosiphon stamineus roots I 50 mg/200g, II 150 mg/200g, and III 250 mg/200g. 70% ethanolic extract of Orthosiphon stamineus roots with the doses of I 50 mg/200g, II 150 mg/200g, and III 250 mg/200g of body-weight can reduce blood glucose level on Alloxan–induced white male rats Wistar. However, only the dose of 250 mg/200g of body-weight is almost as effective as glibenclamide administered for 14 days.
