Pelapisan Ni Pada Bahan Aluminium Dengan Metode Elektroplating

- The aim of the work was to investigate the optimum plating time with regards to the hardness and wear specific in the electroplating process of nickel on an aluminium substrate with a diameter of 16 mm and 4 mm thickness. The experiment was carried out using plating time of 5, 10, 15, 20, and 25 minutes, with a constant voltage at 3 Volt. The cross sectional area of the sample was observed Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM). The hardness of the surface was measured using Vickers hardness test, while the wear rate was observed using an Oghosi universal wear testing mechine (type oat-U). The results showed that the optimum plating time for hardness was achieved at a plating time of 20 minutes, where the hardness of Aluminium before and after electroplating of nickel has increased from 90,576 VHN to 249,936 VHN. The wear specific of Al before and after plating has reduced from 21,17 x 10-8 mm3/kg.mm, to 3,28 x 10-8 mm3/kg.mm when using a plating time of 25 minutes.
