  • Hijab is compulsory clothing worn by Muslim women. Along its development, the hijab is no longer seen all-round closed clothing depicting the traditional impression, monotonous and archaic. Hijab comes with various – range of materials, colours and accessories so that the use of the hijab is not just limited to religious orders to cover the nakedness, but also as a symbol of Muslim women who are following the trend. Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta has regulations aimed for students to wear clothing appropriate to the norms of decency, morality, and religious teachings of Islam. However, many students are wearing tight clothes and transparent that describes the shape of the body. The purpose of this study was to describe the motivation of the students of Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta in wearing the hijab modis. Informants research as much as 6 people were selected by sampling purposive i.e. students of Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta who wear fashionable hijab with age range of 19 – 25 years. The results showed that motivation is influenced by intrinsic factors, namely the lack of understanding of the rules to wear the hijab, wear syar'i unpreparedness, and a sense of comfort, as well as extrinsic factors that conformity, freedom from parents, the varied clothing models and reinforcement of praise.
