- Stroke is one of the deathly diseases. Every year, about 6 millions people around the world pass away because of stroke. One out of six people suffer a stroke and every 6 seconds, a person dies by dint of stroke. The data shows that 25-74% stroke patients around the world are estimated to require help from someone to do their activities. Someone who provides helping for people with chronic disease such as stroke is known as caregiver. In caring for stroke patients appears various issues which must be faced by caregiver and causing stress, to reduce or relieve the stress, caregiver needs to do coping. The purposes of this research are to know caregiver stress condition and to know how the coping style which is done by caregiver. Researcher uses qualitative method with research informants consisting of 4 key informants and 4 supporting informants. Key informant is the main family who has a role as stroke patient's main caregiver, meanwhile supporting informant is person close to caregiver and know about caregiver's activity in caring stroke patient. In this research, researcher uses interview method as data collection instrument. The result of this research shows that caregivers experience stress i.e. physical exhaustion, psychological exhaustion, the demands of family and financial problem. The caregivers face those problems in various ways. There are 3 coping types that revealed in this research, those are religious coping, coping based on emotion and coping based on problem. Caregivers have the different style of coping and its affected by age, life phase, gender, ethnic & culture, economy status and social support.
