  • BACKGROUND: Streptococcus mutans as bacteria previously known as part of the normal flora in the oral cavity that play a role in the process of fermentation of carbohydrates to produce acids that eventually cause tooth demineralization. PURPOSE: This study aimed to determine the effect of solution of Sodium Fluoride (NaF) in honey can inhibit the growth of bacteria types of Streptococcus mutans (S. mutans) in vitro. METHODS: This study is a pure laboratory experimental research design with Post-test Only Control Group Design. Test analysis using One Way ANOVA followed by t-test to see the difference between each treatment group from each group. RESULTS: The results showed that a mixture of honey with NaF has the power to inhibit the growth of bacteria Streptococcus mutans. CONCLUSION: In addition Sodium Fluoride (NaF) with a concentration of 1ppm, 1.5 ppm, and 2ppm in honey can inhibit the growth of Streptococcus mutans, the optimum dose 1,5ppm.
